Dighton Historical Commission approves plaque, coin purchases at March meeting

DIGHTON — March 10, 2026 — Dighton Historical Commission approves $92 walnut plaque for town flag creator and $25 commemorative coin at March 10 session. The commission unanimously voted to purchase an engraved walnut plaque honoring Katherine Yell, designer of the town flag, to be presented at a future Select Board meeting with Yell's family in attendance, and separately approved a 250th anniversary of America coin for the commission's ongoing time capsule project. Members also unanimously accepted the resignation of Patricia Olson, who served approximately 15 years on the commission, leaving the seven-member body with two open seats and a four-member quorum threshold. The Mount Hope Finishing Company National Register nomination was discussed at length — members raised questions about the application's fragmented boundary map and a Taunton-side parcel historically known as Mount Hope Farm — with the commission agreeing to meet with consultant Stacy before holding a formal approval vote. The commission's remaining FY2026 budget stands at $569.56 before the approved expenditures.
