Freetown Town Meeting clears two-thirds threshold for $26.5 million library and senior center, sending it to a June 8 ballot vote. Board of Selectmen Chairman Carlos Lopes told voters the town must accept a $9,879,645 state library construction grant by June 30 or lose it, framing the borrowing of up to $17 million as "our unique opportunity to take about $10 million of our tax dollars back into our hands." A malfunctioning electronic clicker vote forced a switch to paper tickets before the article passed. Voters also adopted the fiscal 2027 budget, including a $16,886,140.48 education assessment and a Fire Department budget raised $71,000 over request for a new firefighter, authorized a petition seeking recall power over Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District Committee members, and approved a battery energy storage zoning bylaw after a 128-66 vote to table it fell short of the two-thirds required to succeed.
