North Attleborough Activates Cooling Centers Amid Extreme Heat Warning

Town leaders activated heat-emergency messaging Tuesday, with Emergency Management Director Christopher Coleman front and center in pushing residents to find relief at cooling centers across North Attleborough. Officials are asking community members — particularly the elderly, young children, and those without air conditioning — to check the town's website at nattleboro.com for cooling center locations and hours, and to follow recommended heat-safety practices including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and checking on neighbors.
The timing is notable: the town's sweeping "Celebrating Liberty's Legacy: 250 Years of Independence" Fourth of July schedule begins Saturday, with a Kickoff Celebration and Community Picnic on July 4. Residents planning to attend outdoor events should factor the heat warning into their plans. The Board of Public Works also has a Rate Hearing and Public Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 1.
Separately, the North Attleborough Cultural Council has announced the lineup for its 2026 Summer Concert Series, and registration is open for the "Twice is Nice" 2.5- and 5-mile road race on July 12, part of the 250th anniversary commemoration.

History takes center stage in the week ahead. The North Attleborough Historical Society is hosting "Voices of the Past at the Woodcock Cemetery" on Sunday, July 5, from noon to 3 p.m. at the historic Woodcock Garrison House — an afternoon program connecting local heritage to the nation's founding.
Looking a week further out, the Attleboro and North Attleborough Historical Societies will co-host a tour of the Old Towne Church and Powder House on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m., featuring special guest G. A. "Paolo" Di Gregorio, billed as the Artifactual Scholar.
The Richards Memorial Library is also stepping into the 250th commemoration with a pair of guest lectures: a Revolutionary War lecturer on Tuesday, July 7, and a Women's Activism lecture on Wednesday, July 8. A 250th Youth Trivia event is set for Thursday, July 9.
