Board of Selectmen · Meeting of May 19, 2026

Freetown selectmen answered third graders' questions about town government at a Freetown Elementary School civics event. Selectmen Carlos Lopes, Chad S. Carvalho and Jared Zager described a proposed $10 million library and council on aging building on a 32-acre parcel, calling the current East Freetown library, which holds about 11 people, too small. Lopes said the project could go before voters at the June 1 Annual Town Meeting.

Carvalho, who uses a wheelchair, said accessibility has shaped recent park upgrades and called for more sidewalks townwide. The board also said it recently approved funding to fix a leaking school roof, saying, "We approved it yesterday. We'll move forward as quickly as possible." No formal votes occurred during the student session itself.
