Westport Bike Committee Confirms Earth Day Recycling Event and Bay Coast Bank Grant

WESTPORT — April 16, 2026 — Westport Bike and Walking Committee confirms Earth Day bicycle recycling event and secures $10,000 matching grant. The committee voted unanimously to approve its March 19 minutes and confirmed that an Earth Day bicycle recycling event will be held Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westport transfer station, open to all South Coast residents at no charge. Chair Gail Roderick reported that Bay Coast Bank has awarded a $10,000 matching grant supporting the Westport Wintucket Connector Mass Trails project, with the town planning department handling the application. The committee also agreed to produce a roughly 30-minute recorded cable TV panel for Westport's government channel during May bike month, drawing on concept drawings and prior grant project materials, with community access TV producer Val Bain facilitating. The Northern Scenic Green Route request for proposals, carrying a total budget of $352,500 in Mass Trails funds and matching contributions, has attracted nearly 100 interested contractors, with interviews expected in late May.
