Acushnet Conservation Commission Flags Unidentified Pond Near Proposed Storage Site
ACUSHNET -- March 25, 2026, Acushnet Conservation Commission continues Middle Road storage hearing over unidentified pond. The commission voted unanimously March 25 to continue the Cristiano Meet in the Middle, LLC application at Zero Middle Road to April 22, 2026, after members discovered during a site visit a pond or possible vernal pool, not shown on any submitted plan, sitting roughly 35 feet from the proposed contractor storage yard. Commission Chair Jim warned that if the feature is certified as a vernal pool, required setbacks of 100 to 200 feet could render the current layout unworkable: "If it is a vernal pool, it's got to get certified." The commission also unanimously ordered peer review under Chapter 53G of an eight-year-old wetland delineation tied to a 3.116-megawatt solar farm at 540R Main Street, represented by Asa Smith of Atlantic Design Engineers Incorporated, citing unnumbered flags and possible boundary drift. An accessory dwelling unit at 4 Elderberry Drive for applicant Kelly Chase was approved with a $250 fine provision for certificate-of-compliance failures, and a year-old flooding enforcement complaint from an abutter at 183 Matt Poisons Road prompted the commission to promise a site visit and circuit-rider consultation before its April 8 meeting.
