Conservation Commission · Meeting of October 27, 2026

Mansfield's Conservation Commission approved a pavilion near Norton Reservoir and discussed plans for a yearlong study of a local preservation tax. The board voted 7-0 to issue a negative determination for the IBEW's 50-by-30-foot pavilion at 900 South Main Street, represented by Michael Trowbridge of Hutch and Trowbridge Associates. Conservation and Environmental Planner Katelyn Gonyer said she was awarded a SNEP Network grant to spend a year studying whether Mansfield should adopt the Community Preservation Act, a tax surcharge of 1 percent to 4 percent on real estate bills, rejected by the town in 2011.

She estimated a possible May 2028 Town Meeting vote if support emerges. Gonyer also outlined a draft, roughly $100 fee-based review process for hazardous trees near conservation land, saying "if we had had that nor'easter...we could have seen an entirely different town the next day." The commission also approved minutes 7-0 and adjourned 7-0 at 6:48 p.m.
