Dartmouth Conservation Commission Approves Fonce Corner Gas Station, Delays Dock Decision

Conservation · Meeting of July 21, 2026

Dartmouth Conservation Commission approves a Fonce Corner Road gas station and continues a contentious Clarks Cove dock application. The commission voted unanimously July 21 to issue an order of conditions for a proposed 5,785-square-foot convenience store and gas station at 411 Fonce Corner Road, where the project would impact roughly 60 percent of the buffer zone to a bordering vegetated wetland; staff confirmed both the town engineer and a peer review consultant had signed off. A separate application for a 266-foot pile-supported dock in Clarks Cove at 21 Rockland Farm was continued to September 1 after staff raised multiple outstanding concerns, including the absence of a Harbormaster report, an incomplete shellfish survey, no eelgrass survey, and an unresolved southern property line; the commission chair characterized the applicant's suggestion that a longer shellfish study would find similar results as "conjecture, not a scientific conclusion." Three other applications — a car dealership at 0 State Road, a multifamily complex at 810 State Road, and a seawall certificate of compliance at 1 Meadow Shores — were each continued to August 4 pending additional materials.
