Dighton CPC Approves Eligibility for Lions Club Spratt Field Bleacher Replacement

Dighton's Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved eligibility for a Lions Club proposal to replace the condemned 1970s-era concrete bleachers at Spratt Field. Chair Kevin Smith and the five-member panel found the project qualifies under the Community Preservation Act as creation of a new recreational asset, citing the total demolition required and the significant expansion of ADA-accessible seating the replacement would bring. The committee also voted to hold its required annual public meeting immediately following its February regular meeting, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., with March as a fallback. Members spent considerable time on a lesson-learned discussion about the nearly fully drawn-down library project, agreeing that future grantees on complex projects must submit itemized invoices for committee review, with approximately $204,124 remaining from an appropriation originally estimated at $300,000 to $330,000.
