Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee Approves Updated Handbook and Shipping Container Food Pantry

REHOBOTH — June 9, 2026 — Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee approves updated student handbook and a shipping container food pantry donation at its June 9 meeting. The committee unanimously cleared the 2026-27 student handbook after a review by new legal counsel added wiretapping and student privacy protections, consolidated special education and 504 sections, and replaced policy hyperlinks with full statutory language on bullying and student conduct; one amendment was made to document a paper report-card request process. The board also approved 13 donation requests in a single session, including a $14,700 gift from the Beckwith PTO for activities and events, a $7,320 Dighton PTO contribution to Dighton Middle School for field trips, and a 20-foot shipping container from Sterling Container Sales valued at approximately $4,450 to serve as a portable district food pantry — a gift secured by the superintendent's secretary after months of outreach. The superintendent reported that both Dighton and Rehoboth town meetings unanimously passed the district's FY27 school budget the prior week. Policy JKAA on physical restraint and seclusion, updated to reflect state law changes effective August 17, received its first reading and will return for a vote at the June 23 meeting.
