North Attleborough School Committee Accepts $120,000 Sturdy Health Athletic Training Grant
School Committee · Meeting of August 12, 2026
North Attleborough School Committee votes 7-0 to accept a $40,000 annual grant from Sturdy Health Inc. for athletic training services. The three-year community benefit grant, totaling $120,000 through fiscal year 2029, will fund new athletic trainer Gwen Stafford's salary and bring a Sturdy sports medicine physician to sidelines at football games and other high school events, following months of per-diem coverage after Jared Sorge's departure in December. Construction manager Chris Kenney of Vertex told the committee that the new $230 million North Attleborough High School project remains on schedule and on budget two months after its June 8 groundbreaking, with $70 million in early contracts awarded and bid results "coming in to the positives." Substantial completion is targeted for fall 2028 and student occupancy for fall 2029.
The committee also voted unanimously to declare school bus number 7 surplus for sale or disposal, citing chronic mechanical problems, and elected Lindsay Ben-Harris as committee secretary for 2026-27.
