Mansfield airport construction, DPW road work begin this summer

MANSFIELD — Construction crews began major runway and taxiway upgrades at Mansfield Municipal Airport this week, one of several public-works and municipal items topping town news as of Thursday, while the town manager prepares to gather resident input on the budget through a new series of focus groups.

The Department of Public Works' Highway Division kicked off a slate of construction projects around town this summer, the town said in a notice posted Thursday, without detailing individual streets affected; residents can expect intermittent disruption through the season.

Separately, a bigger project got underway Monday, July 13, at Mansfield Municipal Airport, 265 Fruit Street: a major site-improvement effort renovating and upgrading the airport's runway and taxiway areas. The town issued a traffic advisory ahead of the work, a signal the project could affect roads near the airport as it proceeds.

Town Manager will host a series of community focus groups this summer to collect resident feedback and perspectives on issues facing Mansfield, including the town's budget plan, according to a town announcement. No specific dates were listed.

The Phase III water restrictions imposed townwide remain in effect, continuing limits on outdoor water use that residents have lived under since they took hold June 10.

The town's information technology office also circulated its latest weekly cybersecurity bulletin Wednesday, walking residents through a scam scenario and how to spot and resolve it; past editions are archived on the town's Information Technologies webpage.
