TOWN HALL The City of New Bedford said on its official website that it welcomed the Sagres, a three-masted barque used by the Portuguese Navy as a sail-training vessel, to the city's working waterfront. The city framed the port call as tied to New Bedford's identity as a historic whaling and fishing port and to its standing as home to one of the largest Portuguese-American communities in the country.
