Rehoboth board waives road rule for 32-lot Liberty Estates plan
Planning Board · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Rehoboth Planning Board waives dead-end road rule for 32-home Liberty Estates subdivision. The board voted unanimously to approve developer John Ferreira's preliminary plan for 32 single-family lots off Agricultural Avenue, after securing his commitment not to connect the roads to Tremont Street and a $160,000 developer-funded highway maintenance account, $5,000 per lot. More than a dozen residents objected, citing traffic and a "severe drought" straining the aquifer; resident Sharon Oliveira said "we are the ones whose roads look like garbage because there's so much traffic on it." Ferreira called the criticism the cost of doing business, saying "I don't need this," while offering a five-acre conservation donation.
In separate votes, the board closed a continued hearing and approved site plan, groundwater and solar special permits 5-0 for a 233 Winthrop Street project, and recommended the Board of Selectmen not exercise the town's $1.6 million right of first refusal on a 94.5-acre Chapter 61 parcel tied to the same Davis family land.
