Seekonk board declines Medeiros Farm contract despite AG clearance

Select Board · Meeting of August 19, 2026

Seekonk board clears itself on open meeting law, but Medeiros Farm design fight drags on. An Attorney General's office letter read by Vice Chairperson Michael Healy found no violations in Darlene Taylor's complaints over the town's 2021-2025 handling of the farm purchase. Resident Ann Miller told the board town meeting approved $825,000 for design services on a 216-vote margin and twice rejected petitions to kill the project, yet the board still won't sign a contract with CHA Consulting.

"What authority does the select board believe it has to prevent the approved design study from proceeding?" Miller asked. Town Administrator Shawn Cadime said the contract lacked pricing details. Separately, the board approved a conditional hire of firefighter Wesley Meyer, licensed two new restaurants, and got two traffic-study bids for the site: Bowman Consulting at $27,300 and Howard Stein Hudson at $23,800.

Chairperson Gary Sagar was absent following his son's death a day earlier.
