School Committee Subcommittee Advances Three Student Policies to Full Board
School Committee · Meeting of August 4, 2026
North Attleborough's School Committee policy subcommittee unanimously advanced three student policies to the full board ahead of a state-imposed mid-August deadline. The subcommittee, meeting August 4, voted separately to forward policies JLCD (administering medications to students), JLCDC (self-administration and self-carry of medications), and JKAA (time-out, seclusion, and restraint of students) for a first read at the August 13 full School Committee meeting. Director of Student Services Candace Andrade, who presented all three policies, noted that JLCD and JLCDC had been vetted by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and district attorneys; she also flagged that the full board will be asked to rescind its April 2026 adoption of JLCD and replace it with the updated version.
Policy JKAA originates from a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education mandate requiring all public schools to adopt a formal student-restraint policy by mid-August, and Andrade described the district's training approach as one that treats physical intervention as "always a measure of last resort."
