TAUNTON — June 3, 2026 — Taunton School Committee adopts $140.3 million budget for FY27 and extends superintendent's contract four years. The committee voted 7-0 at its June 3 meeting to approve expenditures of $140,277,587, drawing $135,231,802 from city appropriations and rolling over fiscal year 2026 circuit-breaker reimbursement funds, with Superintendent Cabral telling the board the plan carries "no cuts in services and no layoffs to staff." In a separate executive-session vote ratified 6-1 in open session — Ms. Santos dissenting — the committee extended Cabral's contract for four years at 3 percent annual raises plus half of an educational stipend for coursework. The Finance and Law Subcommittee earlier approved $2,285,993.91 in bills payable and awarded three cafeteria bids, including equipment maintenance to JANCO Sales and Service at $127.50 per labor hour with no travel fees. Cabral also announced a second early-college designation for Taunton High School through UMass Dartmouth, with estimated tuition savings to families of $415,000 to date and a projected $1.5 million once fully operational.
