Westport Council on Aging tables July minutes

Council on Aging · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Westport's Council on Aging tables disputed July minutes and vets a new board nominee. The board unanimously approved August's minutes but tabled July's after member Lisa said bylaw citations tied to the secretary and treasurer positions needed verification from Mr. Vitale before finalizing.

Board member David argued state law "does not specify" the council's officer structure, meaning Westport's own 2005-era bylaw, not state statute, mandates its chair, co-chair, secretary and treasurer roles — a question members said could reach a future town meeting. New Director Lauren, in her first report, said the department used $20,000 in town-article funds toward a new transportation van, its third funded through the MassDOT Community Transit Grant Program, and that August saw 439 rides provided over 21 days. Nurse and rowing-club volunteer Cindy Zembo appeared for a board interview ahead of her pending Select Board appointment.
