ZBA keeps battery storage permit hearing open

Somerset ZBA continues battery storage special permit hearing to October 1. The board spent more than an hour reviewing third-party fire-safety findings from Jensen Hughes reviewer Francisco Jogler and Flatiron Energy's Chris Groze, director of fire protection, on the proposed 1606 Riverside Avenue facility's emergency response plan, NFPA 855 code compliance and decommissioning plans, with no major issues found but several items still open pending building-permit-stage design detail. VHB's Joe Cappellino said the noise study still relies on older V1 equipment data as a conservative proxy pending new acoustic figures from manufacturer Fluence, expected by year's end.
The board voted 3-0 by roll call (Cadorette, Miranda, Martin) to continue the hearing, with Clerk Steven Moniz absent. Resident Dr. Paul Healy pressed the board on releasing roughly 125 draft review comments to the public, saying "you're making us go through the process of a records request, which you know is going to take us weeks."
