Acushnet Soil Board Approves P.J. Keating Soil Removal Permit Unanimously

ACUSHNET — April 14, 2026 — Acushnet Soil Board renews P.J. Keating's soil removal permit at 72 South Main Street under a streamlined host community agreement process. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to issue the permit after receiving a signed affidavit from P.J. Keating representative Derek Hill confirming no expansion of operations and no outstanding violations, satisfying conditions in the host community agreement executed in roughly October 2025. The updated permit references P.J. Keating's new DEP air quality permit, issued February 11, 2026, covering relocation of the asphalt plant and use of a new portable crushing plant intended to reduce dust complaints from nearby residents. The permit's earth-removal threshold was restated as 1.2 million tons alongside the prior 800,000-cubic-yard figure. The chairman noted approximately $95,000 received from P.J. Keating over the past two years under the agreement and said he plans to discuss using those funds with Town Administrator Menard for sidewalk improvements running from Hamlin Street to Town Hall.
