Council on Aging deadlocks on holiday party site
Council on Aging · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Somerset's Council on Aging can't agree on a Christmas party venue, leaving its Dec. 16 date in limbo. Cindy Lester, who runs the board's budget and events, reported gifts and grant accounts totaling more than $20,000 heading into fiscal 2027, with Somerset's state formula grant rising to $89,104 at $16 per resident over 60. A motion by board member Desiree to immediately book the Venus hall to secure the date failed for lack of votes, after members traded complaints about desserts, workload on staff, and a roughly 200-person cost cap.
Board member Tony Kosick also said town facilities staff found the center's handicap bathroom "up to code" despite his complaint that "the door is literally closing behind you" as seniors search for the light switch in the dark.
