Council panel advances 5-year data center ban

City Council · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Attleboro council panel extends proposed data center moratorium from one year to five. The Economic Development and Strategic Planning Committee voted 3-0 to push the ban's end date to July 1, 2031, after Vice President Dolan said the city lacks water and electrical capacity and "some communities that approved them prior are now rolling it back." Councilor Tavares flagged legal risk that a lengthy "temporary" ban could be read as a disguised permanent one and asked for a solicitor review before a full council vote. Separately, the full council voted 7-2 to create a new Community Engagement Committee, with Councilors Reynolds and Tavares dissenting, and closed a hearing on a consumer complaint against 100% Auto Wholesalers, where Cassandra Nieves said she was "left to just fix it all on my own" after buying an unsafe, improperly inspected vehicle; the dealership's owner will be summoned before the License Committee in September.

The council also closed a hearing on transferring a Class I dealer license to Attleboro Auto Ventures LLC for the Washington Street Chevrolet Buick GMC dealership.
