Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee Expands School Choice, Approves $11,600 in Donations

REHOBOTH — May 26, 2026 — Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee unanimously expanded high school school choice slots from 25 to 30 and approved more than $11,600 in donations at its May 26 meeting. Superintendent William Rooney cited the district's new early college partnership with Bridgewater State University and expanded CTE programming — including culinary, criminal justice, and medical assisting — as justification for the school choice increase, noting 15 of the current 30 students intend to return. Treasurer Renee Morby reported district grant revenue is up $1.8 million over fiscal year 2025, with even the non-CTE portion representing a nearly 50 percent year-over-year gain. Business Administrator Leo Brehm noted the district is operating with less than 1 percent of its budget unencumbered. The committee also approved a facilities use request granting parking and in-kind water access to Dighton's 250th Anniversary Committee for a September colonial reenactment, and accepted an $8,000 in-kind culinary equipment donation from Highland Restaurant Supply secured by Whitson's Culinary Group liaison Colleen Pace.
