Mansfield School Committee Elects Walsh Chair, Approves Middle School Course Overhaul

MANSFIELD — May 26, 2026 — Mansfield School Committee elects new leadership and approves middle school course changes at annual reorganization. Jen Walsh was elected chair over Lynn Kavicki by a 3-to-1 roll call vote at the May 26 meeting, with Jen Sellon elected vice chair by the same margin. The committee unanimously approved updated Qualters Middle School course offerings for 2026-2027, including new career exploration classes in grades six and seven and a redesigned student-choice elective period. Director of Finance Matt reported the district has expended approximately $34.7 million through the third quarter of FY26, and announced a completely clean end-of-year financial audit; a student activity audit flagged three minor items, including a need to update student travel policies with state-recommended language on post-trip reconciliation. Superintendent Dr. McKeon announced Mansfield was selected for the inaugural cohort of the Massachusetts Early College planning phase, launching a 10-month partnership with Quincy College toward an official Early College designation.
