Dighton Select Board Approves Debt Exclusion Mailer With Disclaimer Amendments

DIGHTON — March 4, 2026 — Dighton Select Board approves debt exclusion mailer ahead of April 11 town election vote on two school bonds. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to send registered voters an informational mailer on two Proposition 2 1/2 debt exclusion questions: Question 1 covers Dighton's roughly $6.25 million share of a Bristol County Agricultural High School bond, at an estimated cost of $59 per year for the average homeowner, while Question 2 covers an approximately $20 million share of a Bristol-Plymouth Regional Vocational Technical School District bond, estimated at $204 per year. The board added a disclaimer that the pro and con arguments reflect the views of the Finance Committee and the Dighton Republican Town Committee, not the Select Board, after a member objected that the pro-vote argument incorrectly stated specific town employees would be cut if the questions fail. Board of Assessors Chairman Bill Moore, speaking during public comment, challenged the underlying budget math, arguing that more accurate revenue estimates would produce a $700,000 surplus and that "there is no reason" for threatened layoffs. The board also unanimously accepted a Revolutionary War memorial podium as a gift from the Dighton 250th Anniversary Committee for permanent installation in Veterans Circle.
