Library Trustees Weigh Gas-Only Heating Option
Library · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Westport library trustees weigh a gas-only HVAC fix that could save $100,000. The Board of Library Trustees heard that replacing aging heating and cooling units with a gas-only system, rather than a combined electric-and-gas setup, could cost roughly $100,000 less, with one trustee warning the library is "on borrowed time" on its current equipment. A prior capital request for the units, filed years ago, had been budgeted around $35,000, a figure trustees said has since climbed sharply.
The board unanimously approved its director's and assistant director's reports, noting a record month of over 10,000 items circulated, and tabled both a collection development policy review and proposed trustee bylaw amendments for lack of a full six-member board. Trustees also fielded parking concerns over an October 7 event organized by Denise McKellen expected to draw about 60 people to the library's 27-space lot.
