Westport Library Board Approves Director Agreement and Record Circulation Numbers
Library · Meeting of July 13, 2026
Westport Library trustees approved a memorandum of agreement with the library director and accepted a record circulation figure of 102,291 items for fiscal year 2026 at their July 13 meeting. The board voted unanimously to approve five updated job descriptions covering library aides, a principal clerk, a maintenance specialist, the assistant director of technical services, and the library director, with union and town administrator review still required for some positions. Trustees received word that the Friends of the Westport Library approved a $40,000 transfer to the library gift fund at their July 9 meeting, while a $5,000 donation from Jeffrey's Clothing will fully fund a Toy Lending Library program in partnership with Connecticut-based Traveling Toys, Inc., targeting a September launch.
A finance subcommittee flagged two urgent budget concerns: an HVAC replacement that could cost $100,000 independently or up to $525,000 under a town energy-efficiency process, and a new water service contract running $4,000 to $5,000 per month that is currently being absorbed by the library's gift accounts rather than town appropriations.
