Library trustees seek new quote after HVAC grant denied
Library · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Westport library trustees learn a grant to help fund a roughly $100,000 HVAC replacement was denied this year. The board voted to authorize its chairperson to approve executive session minutes between meetings, calling it the first time the board has used that procedure. The Friends of the Library reported $53,000 still on hand after a $40,000 donation to the library, with membership flat at roughly 260 for several years.
A finance subcommittee trustee said the library's shared-well water costs run close to $6,000 a year in testing alone and pushed for a dedicated utilities budget line, warning "it would be so much easier to track it that way." Trustees also moved their October meeting to the 19th to avoid a Columbus Day conflict and began planning an undated bench and tree dedication ceremony.
