Mansfield Board of Health Extends Housing Deadline at 12 Pratt Street to September

Board of Health · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Mansfield Board of Health grants a housing violation extension, hears a public health curriculum pitch, and declines to advance a nicotine-free generation policy. The board voted unanimously to give the owner of 12 Pratt Street until the September 10 regular meeting to install a required intercom system or present a contractor-confirmed completion timeline, after the property owner told the board that vendors have been slow to respond because the job is relatively small. Board of Health Agent Amy recommended the shorter window over the requested 60 days, saying "when you give 60 days, there's less urgency to get it done." Intern Carly, a Mansfield High School class of 2024 graduate and Denison University junior, presented survey results showing only 20 percent of 50 surveyed graduates were aware of the Mansfield Health Department, and announced a four-week public health curriculum she developed that two high school teachers have agreed to incorporate into the school's healthcare and physiology elective.

On nicotine-free generation, the board held an informal discussion but took no action, with members expressing concern about over-regulation and preferring education-based approaches; Amy noted the department recently received a small tobacco control grant she intends to direct toward school programming.
