Norton Conservation Commission continued four hearings and tabled a fifth at its February 9 meeting, issuing one order of conditions for the Aubrey Lane subdivision. The most substantial discussion centered on Wheaton Place, a proposed 21-lot cluster development off Pine Street presented by Claire Vogelbaum of LEC Environmental Consultants, which sits entirely within the Three Mile River Area of Critical Environmental Concern and a Zone 2 wellhead protection area and proposes under 5,000 square feet of permanent wetland impacts across two road crossings at a 1-to-1.64 replication ratio. Commission member Dan Pearson repeatedly pressed on whether the two wetland crossings were truly necessary on what he called "a virgin site," while neighbor Bob Butler of 133 Pine Street raised stormwater and sewer tie-in concerns.

Conservation Agent John Thomas separately blocked action on the rail trail certificate of compliance, telling the commission he walked the entire Taunton-to-Mansfield corridor and found the seeded areas to be "a sea of Ragweed" that does not meet contract specifications — a finding he said he would forward to the town manager, DPW director, and MassDOT.
