Acushnet Secures $1 Million for Slocum Street, Cancels $1.5 Million Borrowing Plan

ACUSHNET — June 24, 2026 — Acushnet Select Board confirms $1 million state transportation bond deposit for Slocum Street, eliminating a planned $1.5 million borrowing. Chair Kevin Gaspar announced at the June 24 meeting that the funds, secured with the help of State Representatives Mark Sylvia and Steve Ouellette, arrived in the town's bank account three weeks ago, covering the completed road project alongside $600,000 from the infrastructure stabilization account and $600,000 from water retained earnings. The board also voted unanimously to reject extending local liquor license hours to 3 a.m., approved a vacation buyback of one week for golf course employee Steve Tibbles from the enterprise fund, approved two vacation days buyback for Police Chief Cobb, and split Fire Chief Farland's 37-hour request into a two-day buyback plus authorization to burn the remaining 21 hours by August 1. The board accepted the resignation of Finance Committee member Eric Shue effective June 30 and directed staff to draft an invitation to the select boards of Old Colony's four other member towns — Lakeville, Rochester, Carver, and Mattapoisett — for a joint meeting on the school's future after voters in most member communities twice rejected a construction proposal.
