Bridgewater-Raynham Panel Creates Curriculum Subcommittee
School Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
RAYNHAM — Bridgewater-Raynham enrollment falls 249 students, two-year loss hits 473. Superintendent Ryan Powers told the School Committee district enrollment dropped to 5,209, with families increasingly citing Massachusetts' cost of living alongside last year's budget-driven elective and sports-fee cuts. The committee voted unanimously to form a new Curriculum and Instruction Subcommittee and approved more than $5.9 million in fiscal 2026-to-2027 carryovers, including a vendor carryover corrected mid-motion to $5,069,717.20.
Fiscal 2028 capital requests of $967,440 for Bridgewater and $642,560 for Raynham exceed each town's preliminary $500,000 estimate. Bridgewater resident Lauren Boyden told the board her son was restrained or secluded "over 250 times over a two year span" without a documented pattern review, saying, "it doesn't help anybody" if records aren't kept. High school electives remain down 38 from two years ago despite reinstating four.
