Norton Adopts Federal Law Enforcement Protocol
School Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Norton School Committee adopts protocol for federal law enforcement contact with schools. Following a directive from Gov. Maura Healey requiring all Massachusetts districts to have a policy in place by September 1, staff must now check identification, ask to see any warrant, and immediately call the superintendent before releasing a student to an outside agency.
The committee also heard that switching planned metal roofing to asphalt shingles on the middle school building project could save "potentially...almost a million dollars," with contractor selection targeted for January and bid award in February. Norton High School Principal T.J. dedicated the 2026-27 school year to the late teacher and coach Ken Taylor, saying "he was really big about seizing in the moment, seize the day." The committee also approved a $355,181.87 school expense warrant and this year's DECA trip schedule, including a new state-conference host hotel in Quincy.
