Dighton Select Board denies above-policy vacation carryovers, shifts approval authority to Town Administrator

DIGHTON — June 24, 2026 — Dighton Select Board tightens vacation carryover policy and clears a full agenda of transfers and appointments. Meeting on June 24, the board voted 3-1 to deny four employees' requests to carry over vacation time beyond the two-week contractual maximum, with member Glenn arguing the existing 80-hour allowance is "already pretty generous" and that granting case-by-case exceptions is "untenable." A separate unanimous vote authorized Town Administrator Ralph Fattaco to handle routine carryover approvals administratively going forward, with the police department carved out because its union contract explicitly names the Select Board as approving authority for above-policy requests. The board also unanimously approved five end-of-year budget transfers totaling more than $23,000 — the largest being $8,072 to cover outstanding zoning legal bills and $8,000 for two years of tax takings — appointed Melanie Silva as Highway Department Office Manager and Katherine Molenski as Librarian Technical Services, named Peter Carran as Dighton's representative to the Bristol County Advisory Board, and awarded a paper supply contract to W.V. Mason of Brockton through cooperative purchasing.
