MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Planning Board heard a feasibility study on turning five acres of town-owned land at 35 County Street into housing. Consultant Nels Nelson of Community Scale presented two 40R test-fit scenarios, 29 units and 54 units, noting the state and EPA spent $28 million remediating the former Superfund parcel. Nelson said a 40R district could generate $162,000 to $237,000 in one-time state aid and $26,000 to $56,000 annually in net fiscal benefit.
Resident Deborah Brick said neighbors "weren't involved or notified" before the study. Resident Kathy Dealey said "at least six other people in my neighborhood have come down and or died of cancer," questioning housing on the site. No vote was taken; an online survey opens this week and closes in November.
