Planning Board Approves PJ Keating Quarry Plan

Planning Board · Meeting of October 1, 2026

Acushnet Planning Board clears PJ Keating's quarry expansion after the company pulls its asphalt plant from the plan. The board voted unanimously to approve the 72 South Main Street site plan with conditions requiring Board of Health-witnessed groundwater testing and a dust-control plan before construction. PJ Keating president Derek Hill said the long-term plan is "the decommissioning of the existing aggregate processing facility out front," relocating crushing behind a 30-foot berm roughly 1,500 feet from the nearest resident.

Abutter Christian D'Souza pressed the board on noise and dust, citing the board's statutory duty under MGL Chapter 41. The board also unanimously recommended the Select Board adopt the 2026 Open Space and Recreation Plan and Water Resource Management Strategy, approved a one-year extension for Deep Brook Estates with an estimated $250,000 of work remaining, and advanced solar bylaw changes including a new tree-replacement fund.
