Seekonk Awards $799,549 Library OPM Contract, Opens Verizon Cable Negotiations

SEEKONK — May 27, 2026 — Seekonk Select Board approves $799,549 library OPM contract and opens Verizon cable talks. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to award the Owner's Project Manager contract for the town's library renovation to CHA Consulting after Town Administrator Shaun Sagar negotiated the firm's original $1.1 million fee proposal down to $799,549 — roughly 11 percent of a $7.2 million estimated construction cost against a $10.4 million Town Meeting appropriation. The board also unanimously authorized Sagar to begin formal negotiations with Verizon on a cable franchise license that would give residents a second provider option alongside Comcast; Verizon had declined similar overtures in past years. In a 3-to-1 vote, the board appointed former Building Commissioner John Santos as a per diem inspector after the department was left with no full-time licensed staff. The board also voted to send a formal letter to the School Committee asserting that any decision on the high school's Warrior mural belongs to elected committee members, not the superintendent — even as the school administration delivered a same-day letter proposing to reproduce the mural as a large banner.
