Westport Library Trustees Flag Safety Gaps, Discuss Memorial Grant Fund

Library · Meeting of February 9, 2026

Westport Library Trustees accepted routine reports and received word of a new memorial grant fund at their February 9 meeting. Member Denise McCallie informed the board that the town's Cultural Council has established a grant fund in the name of Carol Vidal, allowing organizations including the library to apply for programs that would carry Vidal's name; the library plans to seek funding for America 250 colonial-arts programming through the fund. Assistant Director Amy reported that security cameras do not cover a bathroom corridor where a police officer recently found banned students loitering, and trustees said a facilities contact identified only as Phil has not responded to requests for additional camera coverage.

A malfunctioning interior door opener and still-uninstalled panic buttons remain on the board's open list. Member Laura Bennett flagged that a new board secretary will be needed ahead of May officer elections.
