Beach Committee Appoints Clerk, Confronts Budget Gap
Other Committee · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Westport Beach Committee confronts a $30,000 shortfall in its beach enterprise fund. Members discussed raising beach-pass fees or trimming lifeguard hours after revenue from roughly 3,700 passes came in near $155,000 against a roughly $192,000 operating budget. Chair Sean said the panel must decide by November whether to seek a Select Board public hearing before raising fees for 2027.
Twelve lifeguards worked this season; the committee is weighing staggered shifts to cut costs, aiming to find $30,000 in savings. Members approved new member Blair as committee clerk and discussed relocating portable toilets, destroyed by fireworks over Fourth of July weekend, into the lighted parking lot. The chair said of e-bikes on the beach path, "my policy is no e-bikes," after a resident reported a near-collision.
