Easton panel clears Depot Street home rebuild
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Easton Historical Commission clears rebuild of derelict 1786 Depot Street house. The board voted 4-0 by roll call, with alternates Spencer and Brando seated as voting members after only Tim Hurley and Rob Cordini showed among regular members, to allow demolition of the William Reed House at 364 Depot Street "not preferably preserved," subject to conditions tied to plans dated August 28, 2026. New owner Ben Carroll said the unsafe, deteriorated house will be replaced with a farmhouse-style single family home designed to closely mimic the original, salvaging granite steps, a doorbell and other pieces "as much as we can." Abutters Stephen and Vicky Hood of 369 Depot Street backed the project, with driveway access confirmed for Porter Street rather than the "horrific" Depot Street intersection.
Carroll said he hopes for a foundation this fall and a spring listing. The commission also approved July minutes and heard an update on a stalled preservation-restriction outreach for the town's old Legion building.
