Board of Health · Meeting of August 17, 2026
WESTPORT — The Westport Board of Health weighed fixes for a health agent position vacant eight months, as a $25.96 hourly pay rate drew zero applicants against a regional market of $38 to $43 an hour. Director of Public Health Matthew J. Armendo said the Select Board will consider funding an outside consultant, at $100 to $150 an hour, to witness septic percolation tests at its August 24 meeting.
The board also heard from Select Board member and Baker's Beach operator Jake McGuigan, who said a single elevated bacteria test voided the beach's monthly-testing variance, triggering two years of mandatory weekly testing; he called the rule "internally inconsistent" and said he is pursuing changes through state Senator Roderick's office. The board unanimously endorsed ten director-approved septic plans and approved minutes from February 11 and July 20.
