Health Board Sets Deadline for Chicken Coop Owners

Board of Health · Meeting of September 22, 2026

North Attleborough Board of Health to fine unlicensed chicken coop owners starting next month. The board will mail violation letters dated Sept. 28, giving residents until Oct. 26 to register backyard coops or face a $100 non-criminal fine, Director AnneMarie Fleming said, noting only three coops have been permitted since the bylaw took effect three months ago. Chairman Jonathan Maslen and members Daniel McMahon and Erie Baker also unanimously approved a food service permit for Matthew Renaud's Ally Cookies at 19 South Washington Street, running through July 31, 2027.

Fleming reported the state has approved expanding the board from three to five members, with at least three resident applicants already interested. Gulf gas station owner Mena Wahba told the board his store now requires an ID scan for every tobacco sale after a sale-to-a-minor violation: "No driver license, no sales of tobacco." The board also read $14,912.22 in payroll and $20,189.36 in expenditures into the record.
