Dighton Select Board Appoints Dispatcher, Opens Town Meeting Warrant

DIGHTON — February 11, 2026 — Dighton Select Board moves debt exclusion process forward and appoints part-time dispatcher. The two-member board — Chair Peter Caron and Mark Pacheco, with Nicole Mello absent — unanimously appointed Michael Duffy as a part-time public safety dispatcher at the recommendation of the police chief, who said the department currently has only one part-timer and ideally wants four. Town Administrator Tom Coogan acknowledged that a draft debt exclusion mailer had improperly referenced specific positions discussed only in executive session, saying "I like to own things," and committed to a public clarification the following week. The board also gave first-reading approval to a Dighton Swap Shed policy for the transfer station, approved posting an Operator Class 1 Highway Department position, and voted to open the annual town meeting warrant, with joint finance committee sessions scheduled beginning March 3. The annual town election, at which residents will vote on the debt exclusion, is set for April 11.
