Easton School Committee Adopts New Tardiness Policy

School Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026

Easton School Committee adopts a tardiness policy tying six unexcused late arrivals to one lost class credit. Oliver Ames High School Principal Kelly Cavanaugh presented the six-part handbook update, prompting debate: member Kelly Percio warned it could push student drivers to speed to beat the bell, while member Colleen Proudler countered that "three minutes is three minutes is three minutes." The committee also approved new Superintendent Dr. Pruitt's official entry plan, adopted a state-mandated policy limiting civil immigration enforcement on campus under the Protect Act signed by Gov.

Maura Healey, and reviewed a facilities assessment citing $32.2 million in capital needs through 2028. Director of Finance Joe Spagna reported the district is returning $265,047.96, under 1 percent of its roughly $51 million fiscal 2026 budget, to the town. All roll-call votes passed unanimously.
