Health Board Endorses Three Septic Plans, ADU Waiver
Board of Health · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Westport Board of Health clears septic backlog, OKs tight-lot ADU variance. The board unanimously endorsed three director-approved plans: new construction at 47 Roberts Street for Josh Cavallo, and cesspool-replacement repairs at 148 Tickle Road and 20 Mason Street for Catherine Burns, both requiring deed restrictions. A separate variance let homeowner Thomas Bassett convert a garage into an accessory dwelling unit at 231C Tickle Road, reducing standard 10-foot septic setbacks to "not less than five feet." A board member said her informal review of Title 5 inspection filings at property transfer found roughly half of checked transactions missing reports, calling it a tool to "upgrade systems that need to be upgraded." Another member reported two years of work drafting a job description for an opioid-settlement-funded substance-use advocate split between the schools and the town.
The board's part-time clerk post was converted to a full-time position shared with the building department to widen the applicant pool.
