Dighton Board of Health Targets Failing Septic Systems
Board of Health · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Dighton Board of Health moves toward flagging a failing septic system model. Health Agent Elizabeth told the board six of ten recent Title V inspections at the Waterford Circle development failed, all using the same Coltec Quick Force system despite being only six to eight years old; she plans to ask the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection about rejecting the systems townwide. Separately, the town administrator has proposed raising trash bag fees to $30 for large bags and $15 for small, a plan the board will not endorse until it sees cost data.
Members waived event fees for the nonprofit Dighton Lions Club chicken barbecue, the DR Gridiron Club snack shack, and Bristol Aggie's ninth annual Farm to Table Feast. Chair Tammy Mellon told the town's public health nurse, "it's hard to know what you're doing if we don't get advance notice," after months of inconsistent reporting. The board also tabled a kennel-license complaint pending a re-inspection.
