Rehoboth Select Board Approves Road Striping, Braces for Article 23 Town Meeting Fight

REHOBOTH — May 26, 2026 — Rehoboth's Select Board spent its May 26 pre-town-meeting session preparing for an expected showdown on Article 23, the state-mandated multifamily zoning overlay, at the June 2 annual town meeting. Town Moderator Bill Quigley, marking his 20th year running Rehoboth town meetings, told the board he expects someone to move the article ahead of its place on the 23-article warrant, predicting large attendance and a quick exodus after the vote. The regional school budget in Article 8 will be amended on the floor from $24,413,003 to $24,312,073 after a grant was received post-printing. Board member George Pereira noted the state has signaled it will sue non-compliant towns, saying the outcome "is going to happen one way or another unfortunately." The board also approved a $43,849.30 Chapter 90 road-striping contract and corrected a Comcast franchise fee to $51,443.32 after taxes were deducted from an amount approved at the May 18 meeting.
