Seekonk Select Board Adopts FY27 Budget With 3 Percent School Increase

SEEKONK — April 15, 2026 — Seekonk Select Board unanimously adopts FY27 budget at 3 percent school increase, cutting $169,491 from municipal accounts. The board, meeting April 15, approved Town Administrator Sean Kadeem's package of reductions — including elimination of an $80,000 DPW truck-replacement capital line, a $25,000 staff training account, $25,200 from the operating reserve fund, and $10,000 from the police community engagement account — to bridge the gap between the board's offer and the School Committee's previously voted 3.41 percent request. Chair Gary Sagar added that any unexpected Chapter 70 state aid above last year's approximate $120,000 figure would go to the schools with no offset. School Committee representatives were at the table and thanked the board; a superintendent identified as Dr. Girardi said the committee would schedule an additional meeting the week of April 27 to prepare for the May town meeting. The board also voted 5-0 to approve earth import and export permits for Blackstone Subaru Inc., doing business as Pride Hyundai, to renovate the former Showcase Cinemas at 800 Fall River Avenue into a car dealership, moving approximately 1,130 cubic yards of fill and 148 cubic yards of cut, with a stipulation requiring the applicant to confirm truck routes stay off residential streets. Seekonk's uncommitted Chapter 90 road-fund balance stands at $1,683,135, with a new paving contract bid opening set for May 14.
