Planning Board Approves Firearms Shop Permit
Planning Board · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Westport Planning Board approves firearms business site plan, hears pointed opposition to a proposed bike path. The board voted unanimously to approve a minor site plan modification letting attorney Mac Long's Firearm Fanatics LLC add a federal firearms manufacturing license at 519 American Legion Highway, with town planner Michael recommending approval "without conditions." The business, classified as light manufacturing, still needs an Oct. 14 special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals. Separately, residents including Mary Ann Lawyer and Henry Sampson warned the board that a South Coast Bikeway connector proposed for Old Bedford Road would endanger cyclists on a road they called "a very dangerous road," threatening small historic lots, shallow private wells and centuries-old stone walls.
No design or funding decision has been made. The board also approved its Aug. 25 minutes after correcting a clerical date error.
