Board approves duplex, storage project, zoning changes

Planning Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Norton Planning Board sends three zoning articles to October 19 Town Meeting and clears two projects. The board voted 7-0 by roll call to recommend raising the industrial zone's maximum building height to 65 feet and five stories and lot coverage to 50 percent via special permit, prompting Finance Committee representative Zach Tillis to say, "it's like an act of Congress to try to get anything built." The board also unanimously recommended a new "developmental impact analysis" site plan requirement and a bylaw cleanup replacing references to the old Water and Sewer Commission with the DPW. Separately, the board approved a special permit for a duplex at 333 Old Colony Road and a four-unit self-storage building at 113 Mansfield Avenue, both 7-0, while continuing a site plan review for 1 Dean Street to December 1.

Two additional warrant articles would draw $750,000 and $50,000 from sewer retained earnings for extensions on West Main Street and Mansfield Avenue.
